Ceres Seeds was founded in 1999 in Amsterdam, with a simple vision: to preserve the heritage of classic cannabis genetics while developing reliable, high-quality strains for modern growers. Inspired by landrace genetics from regions such as Afghanistan, India, and other historic cultivation areas, our work is rooted in respect for the plant’s origins and the generations of growers who shaped it.

From the beginning, we focused on combining traditional genetics with careful breeding techniques to create stable, consistent, and high-performing varieties. By crossing legendary landrace strains with award-winning modern hybrids, we aim to deliver seeds that are both robust and true to their heritage.

Ceres Seeds has been influenced by collaborations with key figures in cannabis culture, including the late activists and writers John Sinclair and Jack Herer, whose advocacy helped shape modern cannabis legalization and culture.

Ceres Seeds has been recognized in the High Times Cannabis Cup for several of its genetics. Early recognitions came in the form of prizes for Fruity Thai in the Indica Cup category at the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam and for White Panther (formerly known as White Smurf) in the categories Overall Cup and People’s Cup These awards reflect Ceres Seeds’ focus on developing reliable hybrids rooted in classic genetics, combining traditional landrace heritage with modern breeding work.
